SYDNEY "Saturday Night Fever" certainly isn't the most sophisticated musical playing in Australia right now, but its combination of high-energy choreography and familiar '70s tunes has ensured strong advance sales.
Following its well-received Australian premiere July 1, producers Intl. Concert Attractions, David Atkins Enterprises and Adam Spiegel Prods. (U.K.) expect to recoup their A$4 million ($3 million) capitalization by the end of the 12-week Sydney season. The show had already enjoyed nine solid weeks in Singapore and Malaysia.
Next, it plays three cities in New Zealand, before returning to tour Oz, in what should eventually become a two-year run. …
