Mar. 25--Proposed new state rules to protect water quality by regulating agricultural activity along streams in a 1.3 million-acre area of the central coast will be the subject of public meetings and hearings this week and through the month of April.
The rules will affect the watersheds of seven coastal rivers -- the Alsea, Salmon, Siletz, Siltcoos, Siuslaw, Yachats and Yaquina -- as well as the waters of two major lakes, Siltcoos and Tahkenitch.
