Apr. 6--The Finance Ministry will step in to assist financially ailing Bangchak Petroleum Plc, the state-owned oil refiner and retailer.
"We are contemplating guaranteeing new loans along with injecting new funds into the operation," Deputy Finance Minister Varathep Rattanakorn said yesterday.
Members of the Bangchak for the Community Committee, led by former Bangkok governor Chamlong Srimuang, have been lobbying Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra to approve help for the company.
The Finance Ministry has a 45 percent stake in Bangchak Petroleum.
