Apr. 5--Motivation was one topic at a recent workshop I held for 20 branch managers of a financial services company. Participants were asked to call up their counterpart branches to ask the staff there about motivation. The specific question was: "What should a branch manager do to make you feel like working harder or improving yourselves?" Here are the responses:

--Be kan-eng;

--Encourage participation and suggestions for ideas involving work;

--Coach staff on how to do the work properly;

--Provide moral support;

--Be a role model;
