Apr. 3--Thai businesses can expect a gift from the Revenue Department after Songkran -- Thai transfer pricing rules.
In advance of the rules being issued, the department has sent letters to a number of companies requesting transfer pricing documentation.
At a KPMG seminar last week, Satit Rungkasiri, director of the department's tax planning bureau, outlined the process followed in developing the rules.
The department considered whether the existing tax laws gave it sufficient power to make tax adjustments for non-arm's length pricing between related parties. Arm's length pricing arises where related companies establish prices between themselves as if they were acting independently.
