Apr. 2--A sign of the times? Whereas regulators during the height of the financial crisis in the mid-1990s recall fielding thousands of queries after a bank failure, the merger of Bangkok Metropolitan Bank and Siam City Bank has been greeted with little panic or alarm.
Only around 50 calls were received at the Bank of Thailand's hotlines since the merger was announced on Friday, officials said.
Most of the callers were depositors of both banks seeking reassurance that their funds were safe, according to Torsak Chaiwiwat, a central bank official at the hotline centre.
