Apr. 13--Charles River Plaza, considered a showpiece of urban renewal when it was built in the 1960s and one of the first suburban-style shopping plazas in Boston, is set for a major reconstruction that will double its commercial space and bring retail activity to a barren stretch of Cambridge Street.
The Boston Redevelopment Authority in December approved the Davis Cos.' plan for the plaza, located in the West End near the foot of Beacon Hill.
