LAWRENCE, Kan. _ The plane bound for Wisconsin is scheduled to leave in 34 hours. But as coach Roy Williams sits in his office Tuesday morning, he's not thinking about KU's looming Sweet 16 battle with Illinois.

Williams stares at a picture on his office wall and tries to hold back the basketball-size lump forming in his throat.

The photo is of Jerod Haase and Jacque Vaughn, two starters from the 1997 Kansas team that suffered a devastating loss to Arizona in the regional semifinal of the NCAA Tournament. Williams still has trouble swallowing that defeat.
