ARLINGTON, Texas _ Carl Everett's right knee is fine ... or so he says. But when a fly ball dropped between Everett and left fielder Gabe Kapler in Saturday's game, it prompted the obligatory, how's the knee?
"I'm fine. I'm sick of this," the Rangers center fielder said Sunday. "I'm not going to answer that because if I catch that ball no one is asking me those questions. People have been asking me about my knee since I got here. People have been asking me about it since I got here. I'm tired of talking about it. Please ask me something else."
Everett, who had arthroscopic surgery to remove torn cartilage from his right knee on Dec. 28, and didn't begin playing spring training games until the final two weeks, was out of the scheduled lineup for the first time this season on Sunday.
The game, however, was postponed due to rain. It is scheduled to be made up when the Angels return for a four-game series beginning June 24.
Rangers manager Jerry Narron said Everett does not look to be at 100 percent and wanted to give his center fielder a day off to ensure that his knee heals quickly. But Everett insists the knee isn't an issue.
"He's playing less than 100 percent," Narron said. "I just don't want any setbacks. I don't want his season tainted in any way because he's a great player. It will probably be two to three more weeks before he will regain his explosiveness, be able to steal bases and do those types of things."
