May 1--Thailand's highly competitive electrical and electronic goods market is set for a shake-up with the entry of Haier of China and Thomson of France, each hoping to challenge the dominance of Japanese and Korean brands.
Haier Appliance Co, the world's sixth-largest maker of home appliances, has formed a joint venture with SET-listed Distar Electric Corp Plc, to establish Haier Electrical Appliance (Thailand) with registered capital of 100 million baht. The new company will market both home appliances and audio-visual products.
