May 7--Along with playing host to the world's best footballers, South Korea is looking forward to using the World Cup as a showcase for its most advanced information technology and third-generation (3G) wireless services.
The Seoul World Cup Stadium has been fitted out with the infrastructure to accommodate tourists and visitors seeking to use the latest wireless communications and broadband services.
The World Cup is a test bed for the formal launch of 3G services in South Korea in the second half of this year. The government has granted 3G licences to three operators: SK-IMT, KT-Icom and a consortium led by LG Telecom.
