May 6--The Communications Authority of Thailand has eased bidding conditions for the expansion of a mobile-phone service in the provinces because no companies have shown interest in the project.
The earlier terms required the winning bidder to sign up at least 300,000 subscribers to the service, which will use CDMA technology combining voice services with data communications, in the first year of operation.
The relaxed conditions, which include halving the first-year target to 150,000 subscribers, will be submitted to the board of the state-run CAT for approval on Wednesday.
