May 3--Thais seeking work abroad may soon be able to ask the government for help, bypassing job brokers accused of overcharging applicants.
Private brokers arranged jobs for almost all the more than 400,000 Thais who are working overseas in various industries and services.
"Every private broker admitted to parliament's labour committee that they had charged fees higher than ministry's legal rate because they have to pay high costs to find vacant positions. So workers must pay higher commissions," said Arak Rachaborihan, the director of the Institute of Social and Economic Policy.
