May 15--TAMPA, Fla.-- Despite strong warnings, doctors "frequently may be prescribing" the country's best-selling diabetes medication in a way that is potentially fatal in a small percentage of cases.
Research published in today's Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) says that Glucophage, a medication that helps the body use insulin, is being prescribed to patients who suffer from congestive heart and kidney failure, even though a "black box" package insert warns against doing so.
