Jun. 4--JOHANNESBURG, South Africa--The Foreign Ministry has called on the government to extend assistance to more African countries to build up Thailand's bargaining power and pave the way for Thai investment in the region.
The Thai government had never used aid as a means to build bargaining power for investment by Thai businessmen though it had the opportunity to do so, said Sananchart Devahastin, the director-general of the ministry's South Asian, Middle East and African Affairs Department.
"Although it's just a small amount of assistance, it is worthwhile for countries such as Swaziland and Mozambique," he said.
