Jun. 5--As part of the "e-government" plan, the Revenue Department is computerising its systems to enable revenue officers to communicate electronically and provide e-services to taxpayers. The department is also planning to make greater use of information technology to improve its tax collection and audit capabilities.
Computer-assisted auditing: Companies file tax returns on a self-assessment basis, which means that the Revenue Department relies on the information in the return to work out the tax payment due. Companies are required by law to make sure all taxable income is declared and only the deductions and tax credits allowed under the law have been claimed.
