Aug. 6--Thai sugar exporters have welcomed the World Trade Organisation's ruling that the European Union's subsidies for its sugar producers violate global trade rules.

Nattaphol Nattasomboon, the deputy secretary general of the Cane and Sugar Board Office, said the WTO ruling favoured sugar exporting countries facing price distortion in the world market.

A preliminary ruling by the Geneva-based trade body on Wednesday has upheld a complaint filed by Brazil, Australia and Thailand, according to Brazilian foreign minister Celso Amorim.
