Aug. 6--Samsung yesterday offered to build the nationwide network for CAT Telecom's CDMA mobile phone expansion project for less than 10 billion baht.
Samsung made the offer after Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra told CAT Telecom to bring down its projected cost of 13 billion baht for the project, saying it was too costly.
Tom Kruesopon, country manager of Samsung Electronics for the telecom networks business, said CAT Telecom's benchmark price for the project was based on the going price two years ago. If a new bid was called today, he said, it should come to less than 10 billion baht.
