Aug. 7--The government has told the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (Egat) to hold power prices steady and accelerate cost-cutting and efficiency improvements for the rest of the year.
"The government has made it clear that all state-owned power utilities must speed up plans to improve their efficiency to help cut operating costs while the energy adjustment tariff (known as Ft charge) will be maintained throughout the year," Energy Minister Prommin Lertsuridej said yesterday.
Egat maintains that it needs to adjust tariffs to compensate for the soaring price of natural gas, which is moving in line with global oil prices.
