Jul. 10--ROCHESTER, Minn. -- When people think of Rochester and Olmsted County, Mayo Clinic and IBM come to mind.
But agriculture is also a powerful economic engine in the county.
According to data from a recently released economic impact analysis, agriculture and food processing contribute 9 percent of the county's economic output, compared to more than 25 percent for electronic computers and 20 percent for health care.
Food production and processing contribute more than $820 million annually to the county's $9 billion economy, which makes it the third largest contributor.
