Jul. 4--EMI (Thailand) Co has become the first large foreign record company to cut audio CD prices, announcing a 20 percent reduction in a move aimed at battling rampant local piracy.
The price reduction took effect this week and EMI discs are now retailing at 399 baht, down from 500 baht previously.
However, most of the British-based company's CDs were expected to be sold at 350 baht at most outlets.
As well, EMI expects to cut the sticker prices of its budget-line CDs, mostly collection albums, to 269 baht from the current 320 baht in September.
