Jul. 4--Recent data point to a clear improvement in the economy, with the Finance Ministry projecting that overall growth for the year could reach as high as 5 percent.
Sathit Limpongpan, director-general of the Fiscal Policy Office, said second-quarter growth was likely to outstrip the 3.9 percent year-on-year growth posted from January to March.
Overall, the economy for the first half was expected to grow well over 4 percent compared with the same period last year.
Dr Sathit noted that export earnings in May rose 3.16 percent from the year before, the second consecutive month of gains.
