Jul. 2--Local restaurants, beer and pizza sellers have something in common with Brazil -- they were big winners during the World Cup.

However, major retailers such as The Mall and Central, where shopping dipped during match screenings, shared something of Germany's disappointment.

As for sellers of World Cup merchandise? They say they were caught offside in trying to meet their sales targets but, unlike the Italians, have no obvious culprit to blame.

Restaurants and pubs that heavily promoted the tournament, both in hotels and stand-alone outlets, reported a healthy lift in turnover, according to a survey by the Bangkok Post of business during the month-long soccer tournament that ended on Sunday.
