Aug. 3--A flood of cheap electronic and electrical goods from China and Malaysia has prompted Industry Minister Suriya Juengrungruangkij to press for reform of import tariffs to help the domestic industry.
Tariff reform would help enhance the competitiveness of locally made products on overseas markets, Mr Suriya said.
He expressed concern that if the existing tax structure remained unchanged, some producers would move their bases to more attractive destinations.
If outdated tariff rates were overhauled, the country could not only keep the existing operations but could also attract new ones, he said.
