Aug. 2--Yielding to the demands of local retailers, Tesco Lotus has agreed verbally to delay its plan to open a new branch in Chanthaburi until the new Retail Act takes effect, according to small traders who are protesting against the company's planned expansion to the province.
The decision marked the first successful effort by small retailers to curb the aggressive expansion of a multinational store chain, partly because the local traders were quick to launch their campaigns before the actual investment was made.
