Aug. 2--Thai fonts used on computers are not protected under the 1994 Copyright Law, as they are not qualified as creative work, according to Deputy Commerce Minister Newin Chidchob.
However, a Thai font developer believes it deserves some form of protection.
Many printers have been charged in cases initiated by lawyers for Simzone Co with using its designed Thai fonts without paying a copyright fee. Simzone claims to own more than 100 fonts.
