Aug. 1--Local printers are up in arms over licence fees being charged by a producer of Thai-language fonts and are seeking clarification from the Intellectual Property Department.
Many printers had been charged in cases initiated by lawyers for Simzone Co with using its designed Thai fonts without paying a copyright fee, said Kriengkrai Thiennukul, president of the Thai Printing Association.
Simzone claims to own more than 100 Thai fonts. The fonts, designed by its affiliate, PSL Co, are available in its computer software programs and have been used widely in printing, publishing, advertising, banners and sticker production. The company claims the rights ...
