Study Urges Dissolution of Some State Institutes in Thailand.
Aug. 6--The government should dissolve the Sugarcane and Sugar Research Institute and cease financial support for the Electrical and Electronics Institute and the Thailand Textile Institute, according to a study by the National Institute of Development Administration (Nida).
The Budget Bureau recently engaged Nida to evaluate the performances of 10 independent institutes under the supervision of the Industry Ministry.
The results will be used by the government to determine whether to continue their support for the institutes and if so, how to improve their performance. Each institute now enjoys a period of state subsidy ranging from three to 10 years.
