WASHINGTON _ Teenagers who have close relationships with their mothers wait longer to begin having sex, according to an extensive study of American adolescents reported Wednesday.
But researchers also concluded the relationship must go beyond simply telling teens to abstain from sex or warning them about the dangers.
Mothers need to clearly communicate their own values and also know their teenager's friends and the parents of their friends if they want to delay teen sex, the study found.
