Sep. 5--The revival of Submicron Technologies, the country's first wafer fabrication project, is expected to provide a sharp boost to demand for the high-skilled labour market.
More than 3,000 local engineers and scientists are expected to be recruited for the project, which collapsed during the crisis due to heavy debt but was recently revived after restructuring under the state-owned Thai Asset Management Corp.
Under the deal, some 12 billion baht in debt will be written off. New funds of $1.2 billion will be injected by foreign investors, including Siemens subsidiary Infineon.
