Sep. 5--Local duck breeders have urged the government to curb the smuggling of ducklings through the southern border because the animals may bring in diseases to Thailand.
Ducks had become more popular in many regions, particularly Japan, China, Hong Kong and the European Union, since the outbreak of mad cow disease, so exports of Thai poultry had been rising steadily, said Saroj Tarikachon, president of the Association of Duck Breeders for Trading and Export.
The association forecasts exports of 11,000 tonnes of frozen duck worth almost one billion baht this year, up 4.7 percent from 10,509 tonnes worth 883 million ...
