Sep. 3--FOOD PRICES PUSH CPI UP BY 0.1 PERCENT: The August consumer price index rose by 0.1 percent from the previous month, mostly due to food and beverage price increases. The index rose by 0.3 percent from August last year.
Siripol Yodmuangcharoen, head of the Internal Trade Department, said demand for food rose last month as a result of the Chinese Mid-year Festival.
Core inflation in August (excluding energy and food prices) for 235 products stood at 104.3. Higher sales of pickup trucks and motorcycles, in addition to construction materials, such as steel sheets and cement, also contributed to the increase.
