Aug. 4--Record high oil prices and upgraded terror alerts in the United States over the threat of new attacks by al-Qaeda helped push local stocks 0.93 percent lower yesterday.

The Stock Exchange of Thailand index closed at 630.81, down 5.89 points, in trade worth 9.63 billion baht. Leading trade were energy stocks, down 0.01 percent, banks, down 1.71 percent, and the building and furnishing sector, off 0.03 percent.
