Aug. 4--The cabinet has turned down the Industry Ministry's plan to set up a 1.7-billion-baht distribution centre in Chiang Mai, citing excessive costs.

Government spokesman Jakrapob Penkair quoted Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra as saying that the proposed investment in the project was too high and that the Industry Ministry should cut costs and resubmit it to the cabinet.

Mr Jakrapob said Mr Thaksin also instructed ministers and officials to be more careful in seeking budgets or launching projects in his hometown, as some people might think that these projects were created especially for him.
