Oct. 1--What do you expect from your auditor?
Some corporate stakeholders may not understand the auditor's role, and so do not fully value this professional's contribution in the corporate supply chain.
To start, businesses need auditors because they are required by regulators, and changes in today's complex business world are placing new importance on their experience and activities. One way to better understand the auditor's role is to review who "needs" financial statements:
- Owners use financial statements because understanding them helps increase shareholder value;
- Lenders need them to assess borrowers' liquidity and solvency;
- Management uses them to communicate strengths and weaknesses;
