Oct. 3--The technology behind news readers, known as RSS, has been around for years. Netscape released the first version of RSS in March 1999 as a format for adding news channels to its My.Netscape.Com portal.
But only recently has RSS been embraced by the wider Web community, especially bloggers, who are driven by public recognition and are using it to push their writings out to ever wider audiences.
