Oct. 2--Sittichai Songpiriyakit yesterday took the helm as president of TOT Corporation, with a mission to transform what had been a bureaucracy-ridden state enterprise into a viable private-sector competitor.

For his trouble, Mr Sittichai will be paid a salary of 450,000 baht a month, plus a minimum bonus of 600,000 baht per year depending on performance, which will be reviewed annually. His previous salary as a senior executive vice-president of the Telephone Organisation of Thailand was 200,000 baht.
