Oct. 2--Thai exports shipped to the West Coast ports in the US are being threatened by a strike that could bring about stockpiling of scheduled cargo traffic and higher freight costs.
Suwat Asavathongkul, the chairman of the Bangkok Shipowners and Agents Association (BSAA), said the four-day terminal shutdown on the West Coast by longshoremen had already prevented three vessels carrying cargo from Thailand from docking.
"Shipping companies may have no recourse but to wait for the terminal to open today as anticipated," said Mr Suwat, who is also managing director of P&O Nedlloyd Ltd.
