BankThai Stock Battered after Trade Resumes.
Oct. 2--BankThai Plc stock was hammered yesterday on the Stock Exchange of Thailand, with shares falling 10.7 percent on the first day of trade following last week's 707-million-share public offering.
Sources said the government was looking to support prices by "encouraging" state institutions, including the Government Pension Fund, the Government Savings Bank and the Social Welfare Fund, to invest in BankThai shares.
BankThai shares yesterday opened trade at 9.85 baht, well off the previous close of 11.20 baht. Shares touched a low of 9.70 baht before rebounding to close the day at 10 baht. Turnover was heavy at 851.5 million baht.
