Newport, R.I., Hotel Takes Another Crack at Expansion.

Oct. 2--NEWPORT, R.I.--After having his last proposal for expansion rejected in June, the owner of the Newport Harbor Hotel and Marina is preparing a new zoning amendment that would permit the 133-room hotel on Newport harbor to add 36 rooms.
Lance T. Shaner, CEO of the Shaner Hotel Group, of State College, Pa., will visit Newport Oct. 15 and 16 to give a presentation at the hotel on the proposed expansion and try again to win favor for it. City Council members and citizens groups who opposed the previous plan to expand -- including Friends of the Waterfront and the Maritime Preservation Alliance -- have been invited to the meeting. …
