Oct. 5--Tesco Lotus yesterday opened the largest hypermarket ever built in Thailand at a strategic location in Bangkok's Bang Kapi, where the retailing landscape will be changed dramatically as a result.

The one-billion-baht superstore poses a major threat to other existing retailers, especially The Mall shopping centre on the opposite side of Lat Phrao Road, the Makro wholesale outlet nearby, the Happy Land wet market, the small independent Nomjit Store, not to mention convenience stores such as 7-Eleven and Family Mart.
