Oct. 9--A select group of Amarillo teachers and students skipped the classroom Tuesday and glimpsed the real world by touring local businesses.

"So much of the time we're locked on the campuses, and for this we see the industries in Amarillo and learn how to prepare our students for these industries," said Denise Blanchard, Amarillo Independent School District's community partnership director.

Tuesday's events were sponsored by the Amarillo Chamber of Commerce and AISD and funded through the Xcel Energy Foundation.

AISD Superintendent Rod Schroder said the event was more than a day out of school.
