Nov. 6--Tariffs on eight product categories will be cut over a period of three years starting on Jan 1, 2004, in the "early harvest" phase of the Asean-China Free Trade Area, according to Adisai Bodharamik, the commerce minister.
On Monday, Asean and Chinese leaders signed a framework agreement on comprehensive economic co-operation, which included steps toward the establishment of the free trade area within 10 years.
The free trade area, covering goods, services and investment, would include Brunei, China, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand by 2010 and Laos, Cambodia, Burma and Vietnam by ...
