Nov. 4--Spas must be required to adhere to international standards in order to keep the booming business in good shape, especially as Thailand is trying to export traditional treatments, a key official says.
Thai-operated spas have proliferated rapidly in recent years and now employ 20,000 people, especially in the massage industry, said Pimpapaan Chansilpa, the deputy director-general of Export Promotion Department.
However, the country lacked pre-set standards against which to measure service quality, particularly in terms of safety and sanitation, she said.
