NEW YORK _ Tony Stewart is splendidly passing his first test as the new NASCAR Winston Cup champion. Get ready for a 2003 documentary titled "Charming the City."

Easily annoyed in interviews during the racing season, Stewart, 31, has spent this week in New York smiling and patiently answering questions. He said he is enjoying meeting with reporters because he can just focus on interviews and not worry about racing.

"I'll admit I didn't think I'd enjoy five days with the media," Stewart said. "I thought I'd be on suicide watch by Thursday night. But it's been better than I anticipated."
