2004 AUG 5 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- Confirma, a developer of computer-aided-detection (CAD) for breast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and GE Healthcare announced they have signed a strategic alliance to bring MRI technologies for breast cancer detection to healthcare providers.
Under the agreement, GE will distribute Confirma's CADstream software to its MR customers worldwide.
According to the IMV MRI Census Report, the number of breast MRI scans, which are primarily focused on staging breast cancer, monitoring therapy response, and screening high-risk patients, increased by 40% from 1998 to 2001. In May 2003, the American Cancer Society released updated guidelines on breast cancer screening, recommending MRI as an effective and sensitive imaging adjunct to mammography.
