2004 AUG 4 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- Facing one of the fastest growing AIDS infection rates in the world, Ukraine joined an international alliance to battle the disease, Ukrainian health officials said.
By joining the alliance, "Ukraine has recognized that the AIDS epidemic has exceeded the dimensions of a medical problem" and that it affects this ex-Soviet republic's social and economic development and causes irreparable consequences for society, a statement obtained by The Associated Press said.
Brazil, Russia, China, India, South Africa, Thailand, Nigeria and Ukraine are to formally sign the joint declaration during the 15th International AIDS Conference in Bangkok, UNAIDS officials in Kiev said.
