Nov. 14--Rockmount Ranch Wear, the 56-year-old Denver maker of snap-style Western shirts, hats and other Western gear, opens a new store at Colorado Mills today.
Rockmount joins more than a dozen local businesses opening at the Lakewood mall, and several say mall officials bent over backwards to get them there.
"We didn't decide to do it until two weeks ago," said Steven Weil, third-generation owner of the family-operated Rockmount. "They gave me a deal I'd be crazy to walk away from."
"Good local merchants build up great customer loyalty," said Mills chairman and chief executive Larry Siegel, in town this week for the Mills opening. "They draw people for their own reasons. People like some familiarity."
Retailers benefit from heavy shopper traffic they couldn't find anywhere but a major mall. And Colorado Mills expects to draw 15 to 20 million shoppers a year.
