Nov. 26--An Austin real estate agent has temporarily stopped a state agency from enforcing a new rule that he says could cut discount brokers out of home sales in favor of full-service brokers, who charge a more expensive 6 percent commission.
Aaron Farmer, who runs Austin-based Texas Discount Realty, sued the Texas Real Estate Commission on Monday, claiming that the state agency overstepped its bounds when it passed a rule this month that requires all brokers to be involved in contract negotiations regarding home sales. The rule was set to take effect today.
