TEMPE, Ariz._Momentum. It's what the 49ers said they wanted Saturday, and it's what they said they got from a defensive-led attack that defeated the host Arizona Cardinals, 17-14.
"We definitely wanted some momentum and confidence going into the playoffs," 49ers defensive tackle Bryant Young said. "Definitely today was a step forward."
The 49ers (10-5) have one more baby step to take_a regular-season finale at St. Louis on Dec. 30 -- before hosting a first-round playoff game in two weeks. Until then, it's all about gathering steam, and the 49ers did that by collecting a season-high five sacks along with two takeaways.
"We're coming together as a unit," said 49ers linebacker Julian Peterson, "and that's very important in this playoff run."
